J. M. Coetzee’s Foe : a narrative of dislocation through assimilation

This article rereads J. M. Coetzee's Foe (1986) and its intertextual bond with Daniel Defoe's Robinson Crusoe (1719) in the framework of cognitive poetics to shed light on complex issue canonicity terms content form/style Foe. To this purpose, Marie-Laure Ryan's notions textual actual world (TAW) accessibility relations are used along Barbara Dancygier's concept narrative space construction examine how Susan Barton's (the postcolonial account) anchors/accesses already consolidated TAW colonial text) dislocate colonizer's secluded, monologic text by superimposing another psyche, through blending, upon it. Susan's incorporates her constant awareness social mind assimilate – rather than push aside driving it out state toward a dialogic, multivocal exchange contemporary where Cruso(e)'s story becomes part story.
